Dans une r\u00e9gion du Nord de l\u2019Inde, une disposition \u00ab\u00a0compassionnelle\u00a0\u00bb pr\u00e9voit qu\u2019une \u00e9pouse peut h\u00e9riter de la charge professionnelle de son mari apr\u00e8s d\u00e9c\u00e8s de celui-ci. Quand son mari policier dispara\u00eet brutalement, Santosh est \u00e9vinc\u00e9e de son appartement et rejet\u00e9e par sa belle famille. Elle accepte de reprendre le poste de gardien de la paix et rejoint la brigade. D\u00e9butante, elle prend des initiatives payantes qui lui apporte une reconnaissance de sa hi\u00e9rarchie. Quand le viol et meurtre d\u2019une adolescente d\u2019une caste inf\u00e9rieure provoque la col\u00e8re d\u2019une r\u00e9gion et des \u00e9meutes, le commissaire en chef est pouss\u00e9 \u00e0 la d\u00e9mission. Il est remplac\u00e9 par une coll\u00e8gue qui a fait de la d\u00e9fense des droits des femmes son combat. Santosh va l\u2019aider pour l\u2019enqu\u00eate, qui devra se conclure rapidement avec un coupable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
le film d\u00e9nonce tout un organisation sociale: la faible consid\u00e9ration faite aux femmes dans une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 machiste, la police largement corrompue et au service des puissants, le syst\u00e8me des castes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Le film utilise habilement le parcours initiatique de la jeune femme en lui donnant d\u2019abord le r\u00f4le d\u2019observatrice ing\u00e9nue, dans une perspective o\u00f9 tout est plus simple qu\u2019il n\u2019y para\u00eet, de la faire participer au syst\u00e8me et l\u2019aider \u00e0 prendre conscience de ses failles. L\u2019id\u00e9e forme une excellente trame, qui convient remarquablement \u00e0 la com\u00e9dienne Elizabeth Chisela.
