Elle d\u00e9bute \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9cole militaire de Brienne o\u00f9 le jeune adolescent Napol\u00e9on poursuit ses \u00e9tudes. C&rsquo;est l\u00e0 que se d\u00e9roule la cultissime sc\u00e8ne de la bataille de boules de neige. Avec une dizaine de camarades, le jeune Napol\u00e9on s\u2019enferme dans un petit fort construit en murs de neige tass\u00e9e o\u00f9 il pr\u00e9tend vaincre un groupe d&rsquo;adolescents quatre fois plus nombreux qu\u2019eux. Il se comporte d\u00e9j\u00e0 comme un leader et s\u2019imagine un destin national.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Plus tard, le projet de vente aux Britanniques de la Corse, son \u00eele natale ador\u00e9e, lui fait prendre les armes. L\u2019insurrection qu\u2019il m\u00e8ne tourne court. Il rejoint la m\u00e9tropole au moment o\u00f9 la r\u00e9volution gronde, pour entamer son ascension vers le pouvoir. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Napol\u00e9on Vu par Abel Gance<\/em> n\u2019est que la premi\u00e8re partie d\u2019un ensemble de 9h, tout juste restaur\u00e9 sous la supervision de la Cin\u00e9math\u00e8que. Le film est muet et monochrome, parfois color\u00e9, sans que je sache si le processus est d\u2019origine. Les sc\u00e8nes de batailles sont en rouge, d\u2019autre sc\u00e8nes sont en vert, jaune, bleu, marron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Comme l\u2019\u0153uvre originale n\u2019a pas b\u00e9n\u00e9fici\u00e9 d\u2019une partition musicale attitr\u00e9e, il a fallu aux restaurateurs en cr\u00e9er une pour l\u2019occasion, au prix de 25 jours d\u2019enregistrement par plusieurs orchestres symphoniques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Difficile de ne pas \u00eatre admiratif par le travail de pionnier d\u2019Abel Gance, il y a presque 100 ans. Bien s\u00fbr, il lui manquait quelques techniques de r\u00e9alisation moderne, mais il d\u00e9montrait d\u00e9j\u00e0 un sens de la narration qui a pu inspirer beaucoup de r\u00e9alisateurs apr\u00e8s lui. Sans effets sp\u00e9ciaux, les sc\u00e8nes de guerre ne manquent pas de r\u00e9alisme.
