Dans un village b\u00e9douin de la vall\u00e9e de la Bekaa, \u00e0 la fronti\u00e8re entre le Liban et la Syrie, un camion est incendi\u00e9 et tous les soup\u00e7ons se portent sur Gamra, accus\u00e9e d\u2019avoir mis le feu au v\u00e9hicule de l\u2019homme qu\u2019elle aimait. Peu apr\u00e8s, la jeune femme dispara\u00eet et devient l\u2019objet de toutes les recherches dans cette communaut\u00e9 soud\u00e9e, o\u00f9 les secrets circulent vite et les tensions affleurent en permanence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
D\u00e9termin\u00e9 \u00e0 la retrouver, son cousin Yasser part sur ses traces. Au cours de sa qu\u00eate, il renverse accidentellement un homme d\u2019un clan rival, r\u00e9veillant le spectre d\u2019un conflit sanglant entre les deux familles. Pour \u00e9viter l\u2019escalade et pr\u00e9server une paix d\u00e9j\u00e0 fragile, le cheikh d\u00e9cide que les s\u0153urs de Yasser, Rim et Jawaher, devront \u00ab arranger les choses \u00bb : elles sont offertes en compensation pour apaiser les tensions. L\u2019une se soumet en silence, l\u2019autre tente de r\u00e9sister\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Le film interroge frontalement la place des femmes et le poids des traditions dans les clans syriens : les femmes y sont instrumentalis\u00e9es, utilis\u00e9es comme monnaies d\u2019\u00e9change au service des hommes, avec tr\u00e8s peu de marge pour contester leur condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Je dois reconna\u00eetre la qualit\u00e9 de la mise en sc\u00e8ne d\u2019Abinash Bikram Shah : il fait le choix de longs plans-s\u00e9quences qui m\u2019ont rappel\u00e9 le style de Sharunas Bartas, et signe de tr\u00e8s beaux cadres qui magnifient les paysages du Moyen-Orient. Je retiens aussi la grande sc\u00e8ne festive, o\u00f9 le rythme des mouvements des protagonistes se cale sur les battements de tambour, cr\u00e9ant un moment presque hypnotique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mais je n\u2019arrive pas \u00e0 me d\u00e9faire de l\u2019impression d\u2019un court m\u00e9trage \u00e9tir\u00e9 en long format. Malgr\u00e9 ses qualit\u00e9s formelles, ce n\u2019est pas vraiment mon type de cin\u00e9ma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
